I’m Kia, the dyer and yarn lover behind Wild Flora Dyeworks! I started knitting when I was young and my passion for All Things Yarn has only continued to grow since then. From a young age, my family taught me to love being in the outdoors and instilled a deep appreciation of the bounty of nature. What better way to combine all the things I love than creating naturally dyed yarn?
I currently live in the beautiful St. Croix River Valley in Minnesota but have had the pleasure of living in many other ecosystems throughout my adult life. After taking a natural dyeing class at North House Folk School in Grand Marais, MN many years ago, I kept experimenting with natural dyes and have felt increasingly drawn to all the different steps of the process. From growing dye plants to knitting up garments for loved ones, it all makes me giddy with excitement! One of my greatest joys is the surprises and happy accidents that crop up when playing with color. My goal is to continue incorporating as much of the local, native flora into my dyeing process as possible. I planted a dye garden last year in my backyard and am anxiously awaiting those blooms!
Starting this business has been my dream for many years and I am so grateful to be able to share it with you! Thanks for being here!
